Paper-Pearls: Paper injection moulding for sustainability

Experience how everyday products become sustainable with paper injection molding and join us on our way to 100% paper recycable Paper-Pearls.

    Alliance of Sustainability

Whether toys or plastic packaging – the injection moulding process is a key technology in industrial production. Our innovation team worked closely with the machine manufacturer ARBURG GmbH & Co. KG to promote paper injection moulding as a sustainable alternative .

The result is Paper-Pearls – our goal is a paper-based material that can be recycled in the paper cycle!

Paper Injection Molding Then & Now

Injection molding with paper is not a completely new idea. As early as 1903, the first patent for forming cellulose fibers was filed.

With a new awareness of sustainability since the turn of the millennium, the need for environmentally friendly materials has increased. As a result, research into paper injection moulding experienced an upswing.

«Our vision are Paper-Pearls that can be recycled in the paper cycle.»

Severin Kasper, Team Lead Innovation @Model

    Paper-Pearls – our variants

Meet Paper-Pearls, a granulate for paper injection molding. It can be used with conventional injection moulding machines and tools, so that a change is as easy as possible.

We have developed three granules that have different properties to meet various requirements. The proportion of paper fibers in our compound granules is currently 51% to 75%. Higher filling levels are under development.

    Paper & Plastic

Depending on requirements, primary fibres are used for this granulate or secondary fibres that are too short for paper production.

The price-conscious solution to reduce the CO2 footprint of your products.

    Paper & Bioplastics

We also use primary or secondary fibres for these granules and combine them with bioplastics made from renewable raw materials.

The ideal solution for products with a fundamental focus on sustainability.

    • Compostable

    100% Paper-Pearls

For two years now, we have been working intensively on this granulate, which can be fully recycled in the paper cycle . Soon we will be ready! The basis are good recycled paper fibres and primary fibres.

In this vision, we combine maximum cost efficiency with maximum sustainability.

    Advantages at a glance

    - Sustainability: Even as a compound product, Paper-Pearls reduce the need for plastic. This ensures an immense reduction in the CO2 footprint for a wide variety of products. In combination with bioplastics, the result is a highly sustainable material.

    - Price: While traditional plastic is laboriously extracted from petroleum, paper fibers are the basis of our Paper-Pearls – a much cheaper raw material.

Flexibility: As a general rule, the higher the proportion of paper, the cheaper the material. The paper fibres have both advantages and disadvantages for the granules. Thanks to variable base materials and additives, we can also find the right property profile for you.

Future-proofing: The future belongs to sustainable products. Paper injection molding not only offers sustainable benefits, but also represents a long-term and cost-effective solution for industrial applications.

Join us in creating the future of injection moulding

Use Paper-Pearls to combine the advantages of injection moulding with the sustainability of paper. Reduce the CO2 footprint of your products by adding paper fibres or rely on completely sustainable products with a combination of paper fibres and bioplastics. We will be happy to advise you individually.
